In honor of Women's History Month, we're excited to celebrate and those who play a vital role in the success of Old World Industries. We heard from a few women employees who shared what this month means to them.
As a parent of a special needs child, embracing equity means teaching others about inclusion, fair treatment, patience, and present parenting. Proving that just because you are different doesn’t mean you are not capable. With the right supports and opportunities you can thrive and contribute to society.
It sounds cliché, however, the woman that inspires me the most is my mom. She was a single parent and put herself through nursing school. She worked her way up through the ranks and became a leading professional for the state of Illinois IDHP. She has also been selling MK cosmetics for 25 years and has been recognized as one of the top 10 sellers in Illinois for the last 5 years.
By getting rid of the glass ceiling and looking at women as equals in their fields. Hearing our voice.
I spent 20 years working in chemicals, but when I had the opportunity to do something completely out of my comfort zone. I took a leap of faith and helped build from nothing to the first OWI owned successful distribution center. Each year we are getting better. Because of the success of the Bolingbrook location, the company has been looking to expand to other locations.
This is a month of reflection for those women who made contributions or sacrifices to further advancement. Whether it is by having a successful career or by being a care giver to someone who will make positive contributions to society.
Never say “That’s not my job.” Chip in to help with what needs to be done, even if it’s not your responsibility. Do what needs to be done or help someone find the solution without being asked. Do this even when nobody’s watching.
