After a doom and gloom Saturday that saw no racing due to inclement weather, Brittany Force capped off the NHRA U.S. Nationals weekend with a runner-up finish Sunday in Indianapolis. Robert Hight and John Force would take their Funny Cars to quarterfinal finishes.

Riding the momentum of her sixth consecutive number one qualifying position of the season in Top Fuel, Brittany Force defeated Shawn Langdon in the first round of eliminations, then Top Fuel newcomer Alex Laughlin in the second round.  The win set Force up to race against rookie of the year candidate Josh Hart in the semis where she would take the win to advance to her fourth final round of the season and her first at the prestigious U.S. Nationals.

Mechanical issues had the Monster Energy team in trouble early in the final round against three-time and reigning world champion Steve Torrence. Force would have to handle immediate tire smoke and then shut off early giving Torrence the win.

Entering the day as the number one qualifier in Funny Car, John Force and the PEAK Chevy Camaro started the day with some drama in the first round of eliminations against Dave Richards, touching but not crossing the center line on his way to victory over Richards.  In the second round, Force would lose traction at the hit of the throttle, giving the win to eventual race winner Tim Wilkerson.

Teammate Robert Hight had a clean pass in the first round of eliminations to defeat Dale Creasy Jr. In the second round, Hight would lose traction early giving race runner up Ron Capps the win.

The NHRA Countdown to the Championship, NHRA’s seven race playoffs, kicks off at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, PA next weekend, September 10-12th.
