John Force advanced to his 260th final round Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pennsylvania to come away with the NHRA Funny Car points lead. Brittany Force and Robert Hight’s weekend both ended with semifinal round finishes.
Following a difficult two days of qualifying, John Force and his PEAK Chevy team found their race day mojo, advancing all the way to the finals in Funny Car. In the first round, Force defeat Tim Wilkerson, then Paul Lee in the second round, and teammate Robert Hight in the semifinals. Filling in for Matt Hagan, Tommy Johnson Jr. would run 3.926-seconds to better Force’s 3.946 to take the final round win.
Brittany Force opened race day with her seventh consecutive number one qualifying position earning a first round bye. Force would then go on to defeat Leah Pruett in the second round. The win lined her up with eventual race winner Billy Torrence in the semifinals. Force had a cylinder out down track running only 3.777 to Torrence’s 3.725.
After entering the day from the number two spot in Funny Car, Robert Hight defeated Cory Lee in the first round and had a bye in the second round. Hight would then face John Force in the semifinals where both drivers ran identical 3.909-second runs, but Force’s 0.056 to Hight’s 0.084 reaction time decided the win.
